MAN LIKE ME
Johnny Langer says his influences
are “Prince for style, performance, songwriting, voice and sheer cool, and
Van Morrison for writing Astral Weeks.” Not terribly helpful when it comes to
placing the 23-year-old Londoner¹s band, which sound like a cross between The
Streets observational lyrical style and Lily Allen’s bouncy pop, with a
healthy dose of Ian Dury-style eccentricity thrown in for good measure. Man Like
Me’s self-titled debut album is released on May 11, and the band will play
the Camden Crawl.
Man Like Me are offering their cover of Salt-N-Pepa’s Number
2 hit Let’s Talk About Sex free to Big Issue readers. Langer and bandmates
Peter Duffy and Trombone Jerome (thought not to be his real name) take the 90s
safe-sex anthem and turn it into a camp electro pop party number!

One Eskimo release their debut single 'Kandi' at the end of
February. Produced by Rollo Armstrong from Faithless, its breezy acoustic guitars
and Leontiou's honeyed vocals recall Zero 7. The track has been remixed by the
fabulous Eat More Cake, who have stayed true to the Candi Staton sampling
original but injected a ray of Balearic sunshine and a bassline to die for!
The band are offering a free download of the track to all Big Issue readers.

The King Blues are offering a free download of their track "Let's Hang The Landlord", to all Big Issue readers.

As a homeless teenager, Jonny 'Itch' Fox was
selling The Big Issue. Now, with hotly tipped band The King Blues, he is giving
something back to what was once a lifeline.
The King Blues are about to embark
upon a highly unusual UK tour. Rather than asking fans to pay, entry is guaranteed
simply with a copy of The Big Issue magazine from the week of the gig, on a first
come first served basis.
