Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be fit?

We recomend that you have a basic level of fitness, but you don't need to the be the next Bradley Wiggins! All participants will be riding in groups based on their speed. We have groups for all speeds, whether you're a cycling pro or new to the sport. Each guide will look after everyone in the group and make sure nobody is left behind and there will be plenty of stops en route.

How much do I need to raise?

To take part, you need to pay a registration fee of £100 (unless early bird or promotional offer) which is used for non-travel costs and is non-refundable. We ask you to pledge to raise a minimum of £1500 in sponsorship and donations for the Big Issue Foundation. It might sound a lot at first but we're here to help with advice and support all the way. In return, everything for the challenge will be provided - travel (including the Eurostar back to  London), tasty food (including snack stops en route), accommodation, guides, medical support etc.

What is included?

The ferry crossing to Le Harve and the Eurostar from Paris to London on the last day. All food from morning snacks on Day 1 through to breakfast on Day 4. Snacks are also provided on the riding days. 3 nights shared room accommodation and if you are coming with a friend, partner or in a team do let us know and we can make sure that you are able to share rooms with eachother if you would like to.

What is excluded?

Travel and bike insurance – compulsory! Travel to the start of the ride on the first day in Twickenham and from Kings Cross station on the last evening. Although we provide snacks and drinks on day 1 we recomend that you have a hearty breakfast before hand as it is a long day cyling. Day 4 lunch and evening meal and personal spending money. You need to bring your own bike on the trip but if you don't have one yet don't let that stop you, we can recomend places to get one and help you choose the right one for you.

Do I need Insurance?

Yes, it is compulsory that all participants on the event have travel insurance. The challenge doesn't exclude you from a standard travel insurance which will cost around £12 per person for basic insurance. You will need to provide proof to us at least 8 weeks prior to departure.

Can I extend my stay?

Yes of course, Paris is a great place to stay. If you'd like to extend your stay in the same hotel that we will stay at in Paris on the challenge's final night please let us know as soon as you can and we can help you book this.

Can my friends and family join me?

We'd love to have your friends and family join the team. If the challenge isn't for them but they'd like to support you in Paris then that's great too, we often have friends and family of participants join us at the Eiffel Tower to celebrate. They are also welcome to join us for the celebration evening meal and to stay at the hotel with you and join us on the Eurostar back which we can organise (we will pass on any additional costs to you). Please let us know if you would like friends and family to join you when you register or as soon as possible to make sure we can accomdate them.

Can I sign up on my own?

Yes of course. We have have all types join us for the challenge ranging from big teams or friends and corporate supporters and individuals. About half of our team is often made up of people who are taking on the challenge on their own so there's nothing to be worried about. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and many people stay in contact after the ride and develop friendships that last for years.
