Celebrating Social Enterprise Day
Wednesday 18th of November 2009 Social Enterprise Day, the national day to promote and celebrate social
enterprise, takes place tomorrow, Thursday 19th November. It is part of the
larger Global Entrepreneurship Week which will see a range of events and activities
taking place across the country to promote all types of
entrepreneurship. One such activity involves a number of Social Enterprise
Ambassadors taking part in job swaps with CEOs and senior executives from the
world of big business with the aim of learning from and influencing the private
sector. The initiative kicked off with Head of Big Issue Invest, Nigel
Kershaw, switching shoes for a day on 12 November. He spent the day working with
Michael Morley CEO of the major private bank, Coutts, and it's safe to say that
both men found it to be an enlightening experience. Social
Enterprise Day will also see the Social Enterpise Coalition unveil the results of the largest
survey ever undertaken on social enterprise. The research will give brand new
insight into the sector, and provide data on its performance, scope and
outlook. Also taking place on Thursday is a reception at No
10 Downing Street, which The Big Issue's Founder, John
Bird, will attend along with the winners of the England heat of the Social Enterprise Awards. Once the winners from England,
Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have been announced, the public will be
invited to get voting online to decide the UK's overall
winners. And don't miss the fascinating feature on the
impact social enterprises are having on local service provision, only in this
week's Big
Issue.
