This years Christmas appeal focus on our Off the Streets Initiative.
The Off the Streets Initiative is the broad name we are applying to a wide range of our activities – it encompasses everything we do to give homeless people the practical help they need to move from a life on the streets to a life with employment, shelter and independence.
In keeping with our philosophy of ‘hand ups not handouts’, the Off the Streets Initiative is intended to be a collaboration between The Big Issue foundation and homeless people who want to put the streets behind them. This help includes a great many essential items – things like an interview suit and tie; a passport (vital for ID purposes); a bicycle (for travel to work); and many more. It also covers less tangible things like counselling and even financial help – whatever is needed for a truly motivated person to find work and a place to live.
