Will the event still go ahead due to the weather?

We have been notified by the organisers that they have had to cancel this year’s Sleep Out at Pip n Jay. The organisers have been advised that due to the amber weather warning leading up to the Sleep Out that St John’s Ambulance can no longer provide First Aid support. We have emailed and called all participants to inform them that the event is not happening.

Is this year's event going to be rescheduled?

The organisers will look into this option, but it is unlikely at this stage. The Big Issue Foundation are exploring options for a Big Issue Foundation Sleep Out in the South West in the next year and we will be keeping all participants updated if plans progress. We do have a number of other events happening this year including our Big Step Challenge (March 12-25th) and our Big London Sleeps Outs in the autumn, which you can transfer your place to.

What other event can I take part in?

You can still do an event this March by taking on our Big Step Challenge. We are challenging you to walk 10,000 steps a day for two weeks from 12th-25th March 2018. As a Sleep Out participant you will gain a free place, simply use the promo code we sent you in the cancellation email, upon registering. You are not obliged to fundraise, but we would of course appreciate any sponsorship you receive. You can add your Night Walk fundraising as offline fundraising to your everydayhero page. Alternatively, you can transfer your place to The Big Sleep Out in London on Friday 5th October and Friday 16th November 2018 we will be in touch about how to do this.

What do I do about my fundraising?

Our work continues regardless and we are hopeful that participants will continue to fundraise for the Big Issue Foundation, in the knowledge that every penny raised is vital in our support work and the journey of change we try so hard to create for Big Issue vendors. All participants will be given the option to transfer their place to another event, or an option to refund sponsorship donations made. Participants will not be asked to make up any shortfall for their £200 target for the Bristol Sleep Out.
Where possible, we ask that fundraisers contact their donors to explain the circumstances when asking if their supporters want to be refunded. This is because we find that donors are happy for their donation to stay with the charity, but of course understand if they do want to be refunded. Please email events@bigissue.com if you do have sponsors who want to be refunded and we can explain the next steps to you.

I would like to transfer my place to The Big Steps Challenge/Big London Sleep Out.

If you are transferring your place to either The Big Steps Challenge or the Big Sleep Out in London, your registration and all your fundraising will be transferred over to that event. We will get in touch over the next week with a guide on how we will help you organise this.

My friends and family would like a refund on their donation.

We ask that fundraisers email their donors to explain the situation before asking for a refund, normally donors don't mind their donation staying with the charity but we of course understand if they do. If your friends and family would like a refund on any donations made, please get in contact with us directly and we will send you all the information on what we need from you and how we will get these donations refunded.

What do I do if I have donations to send in?

We have been touched by the response from supporters with the news and can't thank everyone enough for their tremendous support.
