Registration will be open between 10pm and 10:30pm at St Phillip and St Jacob Church (Pip n Jay), Tower Hill, Bristol, BS2 0ET. You will need to register with Lewis and the team at The Big Issue Foundation registration point. The event will finish between 6.30am and 7am on Saturday morning.
Parking is limited so please share lifts if possible. Street parking in the surrounding roads is metered between 8am and midnight. If you have any special needs and require an on-site parking space please contact us at least 10 days before the event and we will try our best to accommodate this.
The drop off point is outside the church grounds, and you won’t be able to use the car park for this.
Weather on Friday
It’s going to be cold and possibly wet/snowing on Friday night, but the event will be going ahead. We have had the information below from the organisers:
The Sleepout will still be going ahead – we’ve done this before!
But – you will need to be prepared
- Layers of warm clothing (thermal underwear if possible)
But not so tight & snug you can’t move
- Hats and gloves
- Something underneath you to insulate you & keep you dry from the cold and wet ground
- Something over and around you – such as sleeping bag or quilt
- Waterproof covering – big enough to warp around so it doesn’t blow away.
Survival bags are popular but they do not ‘breathe’ so you may get very damp inside.
- Have a good warm meal before you come out and no alcohol (it won’t help you stay warm); there will be plenty of warm drinks and snacks available overnight.
What should I bring?
It’s likely to be very cold on the night so make sure you dress accordingly. Lots of layers and a hat, scarf and gloves are a good idea as well as waterproof clothing and coverings. Be sure to bring a good sleeping bag and we also suggest you bring some cardboard or a mat for insulation and some plastic sheeting. If you can, do bring a waterproof cover for any bags to ensure the contents stay dry as there’s every chance it might rain.
We advise that you don’t bring anything valuable or delicate. Anything you do decide to bring will be your own responsibility. The area will be patrolled at night but the event is still in a public area and we can’t guarantee the safety of any belongings.
There will be a light snack provided in the evening and morning, but do bring any extra food you think you might need. A hot drink will also be provided in the evening and morning.
We kindly ask that you take everything you bring with you – including litter, cardboard boxes, plastic sheeting and bin bags.
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate dogs at the Sleep Out.
If you have ordered merchandise you can collect this on the night. Please bring £10 in cash if you’d like to purchase a Big Issue Foundation branded t-shirt or beanie hat.
What else do I need to know?
You are expected to respect others sleeping out and the residents of the area.
Alcohol, radios or any other items that may disturb the peace of others will not be permitted. The organisers ask everyone to be quiet and settled by midnight.
