This year’s Big Sleep Out takes place at the Kia Oval, Kennington, SE11 5SS. Registration will be open from 9-9.45pm.

After an introduction from Big Issue Foundation CEO Stephen Robertson and an informative panel discussion with Big Issue vendors, participants will be bedding down outside from 11.30pm.

Getting here

The Kia Oval is walking distance from both Oval and Vauxhall stations, and many buses stop nearby. We will be using the Pavilion entrance, marked with the blue circle on the image below.

 

By Tube (circled in red)

Oval tube station is a 4 minute walk from Kia Oval, and is served by Northern Line trains. Alternatively, you can get the Victoria line into Vauxhall, which is a 12 minute walk from the grounds.

By Bus

Route numbers 36, 185 and 436 stop outside Kia Oval, and the following buses are within a 5-minute walk of the ground: 3, 59, 109, 133, 159, 333.

Parking

We are happy to be able to provide parking on the night at the venue. Please email us at events@bigissue.com with your registration number to secure this if needed.

Accessibility

The venue is not fully accessible, so if you do have any accessibility issues please do let us know. If this is the case, or if you have any questions regarding accessibility, please call us on 020 7526 3456.

Facilities

Toilet facilities will be available throughout the night. There will be a First Aid provider present and security on the premises all night. Participants are not allowed to smoke in the stands at any point- the designated smoking area is outside in the main concourse and you must remain close to the entrance door.

Weather and dress code

You are responsible for your own comfort at this event. We strongly advise you to dress and pack appropriately for the event, including warm clothing, a suitably warm sleeping bag (3 seasons) and something to sleep on such as cardboard for insulation.

Refreshments & Light Breakfast

We advise that participants do eat a meal before they arrive. Hot and cold drinks, as well as light snacks, will be available throughout the night. In the morning, you will be provided with a light breakfast. Please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary requirements which we might need to be aware of.

What to bring

  • A sleeping bag
  • A roll or exercise mat, or cardboard to lie on.
  • Additional warm clothes/layers (including hat and gloves)
  • The ticket that was sent to you when you registered- you can either show a printed ticket or a PDF on a smart phone.
  • Some cash, as we will be selling Big Issue Foundation beanie hats and T shirts on the night
  • Personal toiletries (please note there are no shower facilities)
  • Any additional snacks you may want
  • Please do not bring alcohol as this is not allowed at the event- anyone found with alcohol, or under the influence alcohol, will be asked to leave the event.

Bags

There will be a cloakroom, however items are left here at your own risk so we suggest bringing minimal valuables with you on the night.

Merchandise

We will be selling t-shirts and Big Issue Foundation beanie hats for £10 each on the night.

Sleeping

You are expected to respect others who are sleeping by keeping noise to a minimum in the main area after midnight. Please do not bring alcohol as this is not allowed at the event. Participants are welcome to sit in the break out area inside during the night if they want to continue talking, or would like refreshments.

Rubbish

We would appreciate it if you could take away everything that you bring – including litter and cardboard boxes. Thank you for cooperating with us in this way.

Dogs

Dogs will not be allowed into the venue.
