In 2017, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launched a campaign to end rough sleeping in London. For the first time he has brought together 18 homelessness charities including The Big Issue Foundation to form a new coalition – the London Homelessness Charities Group (LHCG) – who all provide vital services for rough sleepers.
Through the coalition, we’ve been able to offer the public a single donation point – with every penny going to support the work of each organisation. Both the Mayor and the LHCG have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Londoners who have helped connect more rough sleepers than ever before with outreach services in the capital, and supported the charities involved by raising over £170,000.
The Mayor of London has also been working at City Hall to ensure that emergency shelters were open every night of freezing weather, as well as working with councils and charities across London to boost the services on offer and to be clear that the Government needs to do much more.
