After the disappointment of the cancellation of last year’s event, London Marathon is coming back bigger and better this October with a record-breaking event.
The event organisers are planning the biggest marathon ever staged anywhere in the world, with an incredible 100,000 runners scheduled to take part on Sunday 3 October, half of those running virtually and the other half running the traditional route from Blackheath to The Mall.
Hugh Brasher the London Marathon event director says:
“The world record-breaking success of the virtual event in 2020 and the incredible stories from participants across the globe showed how the world’s greatest marathon brought light and hope in the darkness of the pandemic. We want to offer that again and we have also accelerated the plans we have been working on for some years to increase the number of finishers on the streets of London to 50,000.”
The London Marathon ballot results are now out, so whether you were one of the lucky ones to get a place or are left disappointed and looking for a way to get involved, either in the physical or virtual event, we’d love for you to join TBIF!
Virtual London Marathon
The virtual London Marathon is happening on the same day as the main event so there will be all the buzz and excitement in the lead up and on the day itself! Participants will have from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 on the day to complete the 26.2 miles on the course of their choice, making it really inclusive and a great option for those people who have always wanted to take part in this iconic race but were concerned about finishing in the allotted time.
The route will be tracked on the London Marathon’s official app and all finishers will receive their running numbers before the event and their coveted official finisher medal and New Balance finisher’s T-shirt post-event.
The registration fee for a TBIF virtual place is £20 and we ask that you raise £200 to support Big Issue vendors. If your interested in running the virtual London Marathon for The Big Issue Foundation you can find out more and sign up here.
