The Bristol Sleep Out is back! Join the Big Issue Foundation and other homelessness organisations in Bristol to fundraise and raise awareness of rough sleeping for Bristol Homelessness Awareness Week.
On Friday 2nd March 2018, The Big Issue Foundation team will head to Pip ‘n’ Jay churchyard and spend the night sleeping outside alongside hundreds of others to highlight the reality of homelessness and poverty in the city. The money raised through this challenge will support the work of the Big Issue Foundation in the local area, such as helping a Big Issue vendor find permanent housing and re-connecting vendors with friends and family. Whilst this offers only a small insight into what it feels like to have no safe place to call home, last year’s team raised over £15,000 to support Big Issue Vendors in Bristol and made a fantastic difference to our work in the South West.
Past Bristol Sleep Out participant and Team Leader for Bristol and Bath, Lewis Stewart, told us:
“…I found the experience very rewarding, we were hugely glad we did it and, yes, even enjoyed it all. Sleeping out for a single night cannot replicate what it is like to really be homeless but, by the measure of how far this brief experience falls short of the real thing, did give much food for thought and some sort of appreciation of how tough it must be for those who don't have a choice about sleeping rough, not once but every day.”
Lewis will be leading Team TBIF at this year’s sleep out, where you will get the opportunity to ask him more about his work with Big Issue vendors.
Whether you are coming alone, or with a friends or colleagues, it will be an eye-opening experience that will make a difference to the lives of Big Issue vendors. This event will be sure to sell out in advance, so we recommend registering as soon as possible!
