The Big Step Challenge raises over £10,000!

We're so pleased to announce that our first ever virtual event, The Big Step Challenge has been a huge success! Our fantastic participants raised over £10,000 which will help us to continue providing bespoke support for Big Issue vendors to move away from poverty and exclusion.

The Big Issue Foundation wants to say a massive thank you to everyone who stepped forward for Big Issue vendors. By walking 10,000 steps a day for 2 weeks, the total number of steps walked between our participants was over 4 million! That's enough to take you from The Big Issue distribution office in Bournemouth all the way to the Glasgow office nearly 5 times.

In particular, we received an amazing amount of support after the cancellation of the Big Night Walk due to extreme weather. Many Night Walkers chose to take part in The Big Step Challenge instead, showing immense determination to support Big Issue vendors which was inspiring to see.

As a virtual event, it's possible to take part from anywhere in the world so we were so pleased to see our supporters signing up from as far away as Australia and America. It's so heartwarming to see that our work with Big Issue vendors is supported all over the world.

Big Issue Foundation CEO Stephen Robertson, who also took part in the Big Step Challenge, commented:
"I was delighted to see so many people step up to the challenge and am truly thankful for the excellent fundraising efforts that followed as a result. 10,000 steps a day is a little more than many walk, including myself! Our work is made possible by our supporters and, once again, they have done us proud. Thank you one and all for being on this journey with us."

If you missed out this time, or you'd simply love to take part again, The Big Step Challenge will be back, so do keep an eye out for its return! 10,000 steps a day for two weeks is a challenge for many, but it can be easy to incorporate walking more into your everyday life all while you show your support for The Big Issue Foundation alongside people across the world!
