"It’s great when people stop and say hello, it’s nice to feel part of the community and feel that people actually care."
Bryan Rowe, Big Issue Vendor

The Big Issue Foundation has a long and proud history of offering a hand up and not a hand out. Big Issue vendors use their own money to buy their magazines and sell them at their own profit or loss.

The process of self-help starts with a Big Issue vendor's first sale. The vital support that we offer through the Foundation helps vendors in their personal journeys’ away from poverty and exclusion. Every story is different but they are all united by the hard work that goes into turning your life around no matter how difficult the circumstances.

To give you an insight into what it is like living on the streets, we have collected stories from a number of our Big Issue vendors. These stories help us to understand how easy it is to find yourself outside of society, excluded and maybe sleeping rough. They show how even the smallest gesture of help or support can make a big difference to peoples' lives. Please click here for more basic facts about us.
