Philip Herrick and Sam Lomas organised a successful fundraising activity for their Ride London fundraising this month. Philip told us:
“Sam and I had a wonderful afternoon yesterday (11/06/2016). Our church had a Garden Party to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday and it was a real community gathering. A real mixture of people from church, loosely connected with church and people who had never set foot in the grounds before.
We set up “stall” in the grounds, risking a soaking on the weather forecast. Our bikes were on turbo trainers and we endeavoured to replicate the journey from St Thomas Church to The Mall – 152 miles – by doing 76 miles each in the four hours of the event. Allowing a 10 minute break at 60 miles (120 combined) – Luton roughly – we did the “journey” in 3:43:45. The hook onto the stall was that we encouraged people to guess our time and how many calories we might burn. Being an easy level ride on trainers it was a mere 2,984 calories between us. Prizes were awarded for best guesses.”
We had people ask about The Big Issue which was fantastic but also had people who knew and bought The Big Issue.
Ride London … Bring it on … We’re nearly ready.”
This will be Philip’s 4th cycle ride for The Big Issue Foundation, having completed the London to Paris cycle ride in 2011, London Ride 100 and London to Amsterdam in 2015, raising in excess of £4,500 for Big Issue vendors across the UK!
