Team Daventry Bike Cycle Blog

66 year old Big Issue Foundation supporter Chris Ball along with his three comrades Martyn Andersen, Kerrie Hitches and Nigel Andersen are doing a 60 miles bike ride this June 19th raising much needed funds for The Big Issue Foundation and 32 other Daventry based charities as well as three Welsh based charities. Lead fundraiser Chris Ball shares his story below:

15 months ago I was diagnosed with Bi-polar, shortly afterwards I lost my mother-in-law to Alzheimer’s. This pivotal time for me made me decide to organise a charity bike ride because it is something I have always wanted to do. On hearing this I was told by several people that targeting so many charities would lose its appeal and they won’t get much money. I was adamant and this is where we are today. At present the fund stands at £818.68. I have 11 small collection boxes in the shops in Daventry and to date that alone has yielded £75. I collect the money fortnightly.

My late mother was Welsh which is why I have included the Welsh Charities. Her ashes are scattered in Bracelet bay ‘The Mumbles’ in Swansea. I support my local lady Big Issue vendor and her husband in Daventry each week by buying a copy of The Big Issue. They travel from Birmingham to sell the editions in all weathers and they have 4 children. I love helping people less fortunate that myself.

Only a few months to go now before the big day, the training is going well, every Monday I go to the spinning class which is 1 hour of torture but I have now got the hang of it and so look forward to it each week. I go to the gym as well and so I am reasonably fit for 66 years young! Now that the weather is improving I am out on the bike now, in your in Daventry you may even spot me cycling around.
